GAC Motor’s Hangzhou plant begins production

HANGZHOU – GAC Motor, the independent brand passenger vehicle manufacturing arm of GAC Group, officially began production at its highly efficient and high quality world-class intelligent manufacturing plant in Hangzhou on December 26.

Located in the Dajiang East Industrial Agglomeration Area and with a total investment of ¥18 billion, the Hangzhou plant has annual output capacity of 400,000 vehicles per year. Its first-phase investment has reached ¥8 billion with annual production capacity of 200,000 vehicles, and this plant can produce traditional fuel vehicles and new energy vehicles on the same production line.

Feng Xingya, president of GAC Group and chairman of GAC Motor, said that the Hangzhou plant will be an important production base of GAC’s independent brand in East China and has the historic responsibility to help GAC’s Trumpchi brand achieve annual sales of over one million vehicles.

As an independent brand created by GAC through its “1513 Strategy,” GAC Trumpchi always holds the forward R&D and international standards, whose compound growth rate has been over 85 percent for six years and profit contribution is the highest in GAC Group. According to the IQS issued by J.D. Power, GAC Trumpchi has been the top Chinese brand in the rankings for five years. In the first 11 months of 2017, GAC Trumpchi sold more than 460,000 vehicles, up 38.9 percent year-on-year.

The Hangzhou plant is expected to alleviate supply shortage of the hot-selling Trumpchi series products. Yu Jun, president of GAC Motor, also mentioned that construction of the Yichang plant would be started and the Xinjiang plant would go into production in January 2018.

On the same day, GAC Trumpchi’s new compact vehicle GA4 went offline at the Hangzhou plant. The model will make its global debut at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) on January 15, 2018.
