China reduces import tariffs for autos to 15 percent, components tariffs cut to 6 percent

BEIJING – The Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced on May 22 that starting July 1, 2018, import tariffs for automobiles will be reduced to 15 percent, while those for components will be cut to 6 percent. This is a major decision in support of the now 40-years of economic reform policy.


Following this change, the average import tax rate for automobiles will be 13.8 percent, with rates for specific entries ranging between 3 and 15 percent. The import tax rate for all auto components will be 6 percent.
