The tractor segment of the heavy-duty truck market has been under a lot of pressure lately. Between January and May 559,000 heavy-duty trucks were sold, up 15.2 percent year-on-year. Tractors accounted for 40 percent of those sales, still the largest segment, but this is 15.9 percentage points lower than the 55 percent market share in the same period last year.
Between January and May, 224,000 tractors were sold, or 48,000 units less than the 272,000 units sold in the same period last year. The entire segment has taken the fall more or less uniformly, with the bigger players having a slightly easier time. A few players, and especially two newcomers, managed to hang on or even advance in market share.
