GUANGZHOU – Dr. Liu Minghui, former deputy director of FAW Technology R&D Institute, has been appointed vice president of Xpeng Motors in charge of R&D of automotive powertrain systems, according to a company announcement on October 31.
Dr. Liu will report directly to He Xiaopeng, chairman of Xpeng Motors.
Dr. Liu served as vice president of Electric Vehicle Branch of SAE-China and the leader of China Expert Group of UNWP29 EVS. He was the special allowance expert of the State Council and senior expert in Jilin Province.
Dr. Liu graduated from Jilin University of Technology and has presided over the completions of several key product development projects and major new energy special projects in the National 863 Plan. He has eight-years of R&D experience in vehicle performance and 17 years of R&D experience in new energy vehicles and automotive electronics products.
Xpeng Motors, a Chinese smart EV startup, recently began volume production of its first electric SUV via contract manufacturing at Haima Automobile in Zhengzhou, Henan Province.
